THE draft prompt 5 PROMPT CHALLENGE

One game, five prompts

Can you make and publish a playable shareable game using Claude with only 5 prompts? I decided to find out.

Every message I sent counted as a prompt, including my answers to Claude's questions. Claude wrote the code, tested it in a browser and fixed what it found wrong as many times as needed inside one prompt, so each prompt had to carry a lot. I wrote every one of them in Draft Prompt first, so each went in complete, in one piece, making it easier for Claude to reconcile into good results.

Play the game and see the results. Take a look at the actual prompts and Claude's responses below. Then take the draft prompt 5 Prompt Challenge and make your own online game.

  • 5 prompts total, start to finish!
  • Built with Claude Code (or your preferred LLM)!
  • Every prompt written in Draft Prompt to contemplate the prompt before sending and prevent accidental sends.
  • Review, edit, refine; draft prompt smooths the revision process.
  • Publish the site with all prompts and responses so other Claude Code users can learn.

JOSH'S PROMPT
I have a challenge that I want your help with. I want to create a free online video game that plays in a browser. It will be hosted on laronge.com or draftprompt.app and my goals are to create a fun and compelling game, learn more about Claude Code (so I'll need you to really walk me through everything), and use this project as a promotion for draft prompt.

Here's the challenge: I want to complete this game (online, working, I can send a link to a friend) using only 5 prompts, so 4 more after this.

About the game:

The name of the game is Venetian Drift

I want the game to be a racing game where the player is a gondolier in a gondola race through the canals of Venice, Italy. During the race the gondola should drift around corners and curves.

I want simple controls. Easy to play.

It should be played from the gondoliers POV looking forward in his gondola with a couple in the gondola enjoying a romantic ride while racing against other couples in other gondolas.

I would like the graphics to have a fun comics style similar to Roy Liechtenstein's pop art style with bright primary colors, half-tone dots, etc. Do whatever research you need to understand this and pull it off.

I would like it to have 3 different race routes. Along the routes the buildings and landmarks should be the real ones but rendered in a Roy Liechtenstein pop art style. I want to make sure that each route goes by famous Venice landmarks.

I would like the races to last around 90 seconds.

I want splash screens at the beginning and inbetween races.

Gameplay is important but graphics and visuals are really important, I want it to look really cool.

The webpage that it lives one should have graphics around the game that relate to it. It will also need and explantion of this challenge, a made with draft prompt logo and a link.

Since there can only be 5 prompts total for this game, I want you to plan and write the next 4 prompts. Before you write them, I want you to make sure that you have the entire picture of everything you need to write the prompt. Ask me any and all questions. Then from my answers suggest your plan for the prompt and I will approve it or change it before you write it.

I will open Chrome for you and I want you to do as much as you can. I will put in passwords and do anything you're not able to.

Let me know your questions, then tell me your plan to make this a success, LFG
CLAUDE'S RESPONSE

LFG. 🚣 First, one thing about the 5-prompt budget, because it affects how we plan everything.

Every message you send counts as a prompt

Each message you send me uses one of the 5, including your answers to these questions and any "approved" message. Back-and-forth burns through them fast. What I do inside a single prompt doesn't count, though. In one turn I can write code, run it, open it in a browser, take screenshots, find bugs, fix them and test again, dozens of times. So we want few prompts that each carry a lot. That's also lesson #1 about Claude Code: it's an agent that loops on its own work until it's done.

To save you a prompt, I've put the plan below now instead of waiting for your answers. Your next message can then answer the questions and approve the plan at the same time.

Questions (answer by number; short answers are fine)

Hosting and accounts

  1. Which URL do you want? Some options: drift.draftprompt.app, draftprompt.app/venetian-drift, or laronge.com/venetian-drift. Where are those domains hosted and where is their DNS managed (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Squarespace, WordPress, Vercel…)?
  2. Do you have a GitHub account? Are you OK with a free static host? I'd recommend Cloudflare Pages, Netlify or Vercel. They're free, fast, and connect to a subdomain easily.
  3. I see a DraftPrompt folder on your machine. Can I pull the logo, brand colors and a one-line description from it? What URL should "Made with Draft Prompt" link to?

Gameplay

  1. Desktop only, or should it also work on phones with touch controls? Phones double the testing, but friends will open the link on their phones.
  2. Controls. My proposal: ←/→ to steer, hold SPACE to drift (a drift that lasts long enough builds a boost meter), and ↑ or tap to row, with a little rhythm bonus. On phones you'd tap the left or right half of the screen and press a drift button. Does that work, or do you want it even simpler (steering only, auto-row)?
  3. How many rival gondolas? I suggest 3, so 4 boats per race.
  4. Progression: do you have to finish top 3 to unlock the next route, or do all 3 routes always play in a row, with a final "Grand Champion" screen showing total points?
  5. Should there be obstacles and pickups? Examples: vaporetto water buses crossing, mooring poles (bricole), low laundry lines, pigeons, and floating "AMORE ♥" pickups that make the couple happy and give you a boost.
  6. Couple personality: I'm picturing Lichtenstein-style speech bubbles reacting to your driving, like "OH, MARCO… FASTER!", "WHAAM! A VAPORETTO!", or "I'M NOT CRYING, IT'S THE SPRAY!". How cheesy and funny should they be? Should the gondolier have a name?
  7. A global leaderboard needs a small backend database. Local best times on the player's own device are free and simple. Which do you want?

Look and sound

  1. Should each route have its own time of day? For example, Route 1 at sunny noon, Route 2 at a pink sunset, Route 3 at night under lanterns. Pop-art color palettes look great when they shift like that.
  2. Music and sound effects? I can generate them in code with no licensing issues: an accordion/mandolin-style tarantella loop, splashes, a crowd cheering. Or we skip audio.
  3. A legal note: we'll use Lichtenstein's style (Ben-Day dots, thick black outlines, primary colors, speech bubbles, onomatopoeia), but we won't copy any specific painting of his. Are you OK with that?

Webpage and promotion

  1. The challenge explanation: should I write it in your voice (I have a "write like Josh" skill), and should the page show all 5 prompts word for word? I think that's the most compelling promotion for Draft Prompt.
  2. Anything else for the page, like share buttons, your name or byline, or analytics?

The plan

Tech: one web page built on Three.js (3D in the browser). There's no install for players and it loads fast. Everything is coded, including the 3D models, textures and sound, so we don't need any outside art assets.

The pop-art look (where most of the effort goes):

  • Cel shading: flat bands of color, no smooth gradients, in Lichtenstein's palette of red, yellow, blue, black and white, plus skin pink.
  • Thick black ink outlines on every building, boat and person.
  • A Ben-Day halftone dot pass over the whole screen, so the sky, water and shadows show visible dots like printed comics.
  • Comic onomatopoeia pops up on the screen: SWOOSH! when you drift, SPLASH!, WHAAM! when you hit something.
  • Split-screen comic panel cutaways when you overtake a rival.
  • Splash screens drawn as full comic panels, between races and on the title screen.

POV: you look forward from the gondolier's spot at the stern. You see your oar, the long black hull, the silver prow ornament (ferro) at the front, and the couple seated in the middle. They react to your driving: they lean into the curves, hold on in a drift, and kiss when you take the lead.

Three routes, about 90 seconds each. The canal shapes are based loosely on the real ones, and each landmark is a simplified 3D model you'll recognize by its outline:

  1. Grand Canal Sprint: Santa Lucia station → Scalzi Bridge → Ca' d'Oro → Rialto Bridge → Accademia Bridge → Santa Maria della Salute.
  2. San Marco Showdown: Rio di Palazzo under the Bridge of Sighs → Doge's Palace → St Mark's Campanile and Basilica → across the basin to San Giorgio Maggiore.
  3. Midnight Cannaregio: tight, twisty back canals → Ponte delle Guglie → Madonna dell'Orto → Fondamenta Nuove. This is the "drift skill" course.

The page around the game: a pop-art frame around the game (comic panels, halftone background, pigeons and gondola prows around the edges), the challenge explanation, the 5 prompts, and the "Made with Draft Prompt" logo with its link.

Testing: I'll play the game myself in the built-in browser between edits, using screenshots and checks of frame rate and race timing. You'll get a working, tested build, not a first draft.

If you strictly want to approve the plan in a separate message before I write any code, that's possible. But it costs us the polish round, so I'd recommend the table above.

CLAUDE'S RESPONSE

Prompt 2 is done. Venetian Drift is built and playable on your Mac, though not online yet. All 3 routes work, and I tested them with simulated races and screenshots on desktop and phone sizes, with no errors. You've used 2 of your 5 prompts.

Play it now: it's open in the browser pane next to this chat. To open it in Chrome, go to http://localhost:8765/venetian-drift/ while this session is running. Click once to start the sound. Controls are ← → to steer, hold Space in a turn to drift and let go to boost, and tap ↑ on the beat to row.

What you're getting

  • The look: everything is drawn in flat primary colors with Ben-Day dot shading, thick black ink outlines and a dotted comic sky. Comic sound effects like "SWOOSH!", "ZOOM!" and "WHAAM!" pop up on screen.
  • Your POV: you look over the gondola's black hull and silver ferro (the metal prow piece), with the couple on a red velvet seat in front of you and your oar on the right. When something happens, a comic panel of the couple pops up with a speech bubble. They have 5 expressions.
  • The routes:
    • Gran Canale Grand Prix (noon): Santa Lucia station, Scalzi, Ca' d'Oro, Rialto, Accademia, Salute.
    • Sospiri Sprint (sunset): Bridge of Sighs, Doge's Palace, Campanile, San Giorgio Maggiore.
    • Mezzanotte Madness (midnight): Ponte delle Guglie, the Ghetto, Madonna dell'Orto, San Michele.
  • Gameplay:
    • Three rival boats taunt you in Italian.
    • Water buses, mooring poles and barges get in your way.
    • Heart pickups give you a boost.
    • Finish in the top 2 to unlock the next route.
  • Race length and difficulty: races run about 75 to 100 seconds, and each route is harder than the one before.
  • Sound: three original Italian-style tunes plus all the sound effects, all generated by the game itself, so there are no music licenses to worry about.
  • The page: a pop-art frame around the game, your challenge story (a draft for you to edit), all 5 prompts word for word, the Made with Draft Prompt block, and share buttons for Facebook, X, Reddit and Instagram.
  • Home page banner: "PLAY VENETIAN DRIFT" sits in the blue space above the demo on draftprompt.app.

Decisions I made for you:

  • Hosting: no new host. Your hosting.com cPanel already serves draftprompt.app, so the game goes in a folder there. The code is in your DraftPrompt repo at website/venetian-drift/.
  • Spelling: I wrote "Zitto" and "Ciao", the correct Italian, instead of "Zito" and "Caio".

What you learned about Claude Code: look at how much happened inside this one prompt. I wrote about 2,400 lines of code, then built a test autopilot that drives the gondola. With it I raced more than 30 simulated 90-second races in seconds and tuned the difficulty from the results. I also took screenshots, caught the oar on the wrong side of the boat and fixed it. That loop of build, test, look and fix is why five prompts can be enough.

CLAUDE'S RESPONSE

Prompt 3 is done. Everything on your list is in, and I retested the game and the page. You've used 3 of your 5 prompts.

Your changes

  • "Venetian Drift!" at the top is blue now, with a white shadow, so it stands out from the yellow and red dots.
  • "A draft prompt 5 Prompt Challenge Game" shows "draft prompt" in Caveat, the script font draftprompt.app uses, in blue. It's at the top of the page and on the game's title screen.
  • The white name boxes over the rivals are gone. Now a rival's name only shows on its taunt bubble, one rival at a time, at most once every 6 seconds.
  • The Challenge card is titled The draft prompt 5 Prompt Challenge and has your new text. One Game, Five Prompts stays.
  • The 5 prompts card shows each prompt with my response under it.
  • Made With: the Draft Prompt logo is dark blue now. The panel was supposed to be dark navy, but a styling rule turned it cream, so the white logo disappeared. It's a light panel with a dark blue logo now.
  • Share has an Email button. It opens a new email with a subject line and the link.
  • The footer says Developed by Laronge Intellectual Property Development, LLC with Claude Code.

What I added

  • A share picture (og-image.png, 1200 by 630): the Grand Canal at noon from the gondola, rivals ahead, the blue title and the couple saying "MOLTO BENE, MARCO!". Facebook, X, Reddit and Messages show it when someone shares the link.
  • Better landmarks: the Accademia Bridge looked like a brown box, so it's now an open wooden arch with struts and railings. Ca' d'Oro has gold battlements and corner pinnacles so it stands out from the other palazzi. The Bridge of Sighs has bigger barred windows.

Tested: the page at desktop and phone sizes, the title screen, all three routes in a race, the taunt bubbles, the share picture and the home page banner. No console errors.

What you learned about Claude Code: I can't see the game the way you do, so I gave myself eyes. I added a hidden capture hook and a tiny local receiver, so I could save full-size frames of any spot on any route and look at them. That's how I caught the Accademia looking like a crate, and how I made the share picture from the game itself.

CLAUDE'S RESPONSE

Prompt 4 is done. Venetian Drift is live at https://draftprompt.app/venetian-drift/, and the draftprompt.app home page has the PLAY VENETIAN DRIFT banner. You've used 4 of your 5 prompts.

What I did

  • Made your changes first: the new email subject and body, and the Challenge card now has 5 boxes. I wrote the last two: "3 routes past real Venice landmarks, about 90 seconds each." and "Graphics, music and sound all made in code, free to play on a computer or a phone."
  • Backed up the live home page to DraftPromptBackups/website-live-2026-10-30-before-venetian-drift on your Mac. It matched the repo exactly, so the only change going up was the banner.
  • The cPanel tab I opened showed the sign-in page, so you signed in there. Then I uploaded the game as one zip, extracted it into the draftprompt.app folder and uploaded the home page. I moved the zip out of the public folder into your home folder instead of deleting it, so nobody can download it.
  • Checked the live files against my copies byte for byte: all match.
  • Played the live game on desktop with no errors. At phone size, the long "THE draft prompt 5 PROMPT CHALLENGE" label covered the heading, so I fixed it and uploaded the page again.
  • Share buttons: Facebook, X, Reddit, Instagram and Email all point at the live address with the right text. The share picture is live at draftprompt.app/venetian-drift/og-image.png.
  • Committed everything to GitHub (main) and pushed. I also added the game to CLAUDE.md and the website README so future sessions know it's there.
  • Added this prompt and response to the page as Prompt 4 and uploaded it once more.

What you learned about Claude Code: it worked in your real Chrome with your sign-in, and you only did the one thing I'm not allowed to do: type your password. I used cPanel's own File Manager behind the scenes to extract the zip, then checked the live site from the outside instead of trusting that the upload worked.

Send it to a friend: https://draftprompt.app/venetian-drift/. The first time someone shares it, Facebook can take a minute to fetch the share picture.

One thing to decide: the home page banner still says "A 5 Prompt Challenge Game", your wording from prompt 2. If you want it to say "A draft prompt 5 Prompt Challenge Game" like the game page, add that to prompt 5.

CLAUDE'S RESPONSE

Prompt 5 is done, and so is the challenge. Venetian Drift is live and finished, built in 5 prompts.

What changed

  • The home page banner now reads "A draft prompt 5 Prompt Challenge Game", with "draft prompt" in the blue script font.
  • On the game page, "A draft prompt 5 Prompt Challenge Game" at the top links back to draftprompt.app.
  • The last two Challenge boxes now say "Review, edit, refine; draft prompt smooths the revision process." and "Publish the site with all prompts and responses so other Claude Code users can learn." I spelled it Claude Code.
  • Added a LinkedIn share button.
  • Full screen on iPhone: iPhone Safari only allows true full screen for videos, so the button did nothing. On iPhone it now stretches the game over the whole screen, clear of the notch, and the ✕ button exits. Safari's own address bar stays, because a web page can't hide it.

Tested in the iPhone 18 Pro simulator: full screen upright and sideways, the title screen, music, the Route 1 intro and a race with the touch buttons. Along the way I made the corner buttons black (the iPhone showed them blue), kept the title caption clear of those buttons, and added a version tag to the game's script link so phones that already visited get the new code.

Live and saved: uploaded the game page, the game code and the home page in cPanel, checked them on the live site, committed and pushed to GitHub, and logged the finished project in Craft.

What you learned about Claude Code: across 5 prompts it planned the game, wrote about 2,500 lines of code, built its own test tools, ran more than 30 simulated races to tune the difficulty, tested on a simulated iPhone, published through your cPanel and kept your Craft logbook current. Your prompts carried the decisions. Claude ran the build, test and fix loops in between.
